How to Plan the Perfect Singles Party

It’s February, which means the season of love is upon us. This year, I want to show some appreciation for the love seekers, the singles, the bachelors. Whether you’re calling it Valentine’s Day or Single’s Awareness Day (my personal favorite), you should celebrate! For y’all single set, here’s how to throw the perfect singles’ night extravaganza.

Who’s Invited?

For this celebration to go smoothly, you have to invite the right folks. When you’re scrolling through your WhatsApp contacts, trying to narrow down who should come and who shouldn’t, remember this fundamental fact: it’s a singles party. Therefore, you should ensure that the male to female ratio is as balanced as possible. It would also be ideal to invite singles within the same age range (20s, 30s etc.). Demographics are key!

You also want to make sure that everyone attending feels like this is an exclusive event. Instead of sending out emails or evites, how about sending old-fashioned paper invitations? Something about receiving a physical invite tells me that the person who invited me carefully thought about the event. It takes a little extra effort to do this, and your guests will recognize that.

We’re not saying you have to go as far as Dolphin Encounters and train dolphins to deliver party invitations…. But that would be awesome.

As a bonus, it would be a good idea to create nametags for everyone you invite. When guests arrive, you should also have them write two truths and a lie on the back. As an icebreaker, you could have them try to guess as many persons’ lies as possible, with a prize for the winner. This will decrease the awkwardness of the initial socializing a bit and will get the festivities off on the right foot.

Dressed to the Nines

Instead of making this a t-shirt and jeans event, why not encourage your guests to dress up? This will echo the aura that it’s an exclusive affair for the “Who’s Who.” You could make the dress code fun by creating a theme. Since it’s around Valentine’s Day, guests could dress up as their favorite lovers, or favorite characters from romantic movies. If you decide to go this route, you should dress as Cupid or Psyche to seal the deal as matchmaker extraordinaire.

Propose a Toast

In keeping with the Valentine’s (or Anti-Valentine’s) Day theme, serving exclusively red beverages would be a good call. Here are some beverages to consider for your evening:

  1. Pink Lady

  2. Bahama Mama/Caribbean Rum Punch

  3. Strawberry Daiquiri

  4. Bloody Mary

  5. Sangria

  6. Anything with Campari…

Location, Location, Location

So, ordinarily, I’d tell you that holding a party at someone’s home would be reasonable. However, this is a singles event, and if you’re having your friends invite singles who they may not necessarily know intimately, it’s better to pick a public venue.

Ideally, the venue you select should be somewhere with access to alcoholic beverages. A casually located bar would be a good choice, one that you’re familiar with that isn’t overly busy, if possible. You want your guests to feel comfortable enough to mingle, and you want the event to feel intimate.

What’s on the Menu?

No Bahamian party or social would be complete without food, glorious food! Since the emphasis of this event will be on singles mingling, you don’t need to get too extravagant here. You should keep it as simple as possible. It could be finger foods only, and each guest could bring one hors d’oeuvre. Bringing chocolate for later in the evening would also be good thinking. Like the holiday surrounding it, this February soirée wouldn’t feel whole without it.
